Every gal knows the virtues of great leggings. And – for that matter – the terrible woes caused by inferior ones. For anyone who has every suffered the indignity of ripped crotches, saggy knees or fraying hems, spending a little more to get leggings that hit the mark is the sort of sensible economics that by rights should have us vying for a role at the Treasury. Well, that is, if we weren’t thinking about making our legs look nice…
Charnos are one of those erstwhile English brands whose tights one’s Granny probably wore; one’s own relationship with them might be synonymous with thick 60 denier hold ups cheekily masquerading as school socks or pearlised white bridal tights. Either way, Charnos hosiery represents paying a little bit more for quality, comfort and …dignity!
We were delighted to test out some of their Velour Lined Leggings, courtesy of The Tight Spot.
Editor writes: These leggings are billed as ‘the perfect Winter accessory’ and are opaque on the outside whilst lined with super strokabley-soft velour on the inside. It’s a bit like wearing a basket full of warm kittens – just the thing on a chilly morning!
For anyone (me included) worrying that lined leggings will simply enhance their chunky thighs (years of lacrosse) or less-than-Dita-like waist (years of babies) then fear not – the 6% elastane kicks in to hold everything in, with a bit of sculpting to boot.
The leggings are thick enough to be worn on their own – not just in terms of etiquette but they also do a damn fine job of keeping one’s botty toasty. Mine were my lifesaver during a blustery walk on a windswept beach on New Year’s Day and I’ve even worn them as jodhpurs.
Really easy to wash – just bung them in the machine (does anyone actually hand wash their delicates anymore?) – and quick to dry, with no creases, bobbling or bagginess. They come in S/M or M/L sizes, I tried the S/M, I’m a 10 but had seconds of Christmas pudding. They fitted fine, before and after. Go figure…
The only downside? At the moment they only come in black, which might have worked for Henry Ford’s wife, but we’d love to own these snuggly leggings in a few more colourways – rich plum or muted taupe, perhaps?
