Lovely Little Things: Personalised cake from Intercake

I’ve always shied away from anything other than store-bought cakes for occasions; I don’t know  if my inability to create anything picture-perfect or the plethora of #CakeFail insta feeds has affected my decision – but two years in a row now this has meant that my other half has celebrated his 38th and 39th birthdays with a Gruffalo cake.

Time to find another option? Have you ever noticed those Intercake booths? You’ll find them in Asda and Morrisons stores. You can upload your own image onto a cake (which can be a variety of shapes and sizes) and it is created in store while you wait (or order online for home delivery).

First you either upload an image (you can do this in store from a  memory stick or your phone – or online just upload from your device) and then select the border (if you want one). The plain white icing makes a great canvas – my tip would be buck the cheesy b’day mugshot image and give it a whirl with a grainy/moody filter, you’ll be pleasantly surprised! You can also add text.

Price-wise, the cakes work out pretty much the same as a supermarket theme cake (even a Gruffalo) so it’s basically win/win, whichever way you look at it.

Our pick of supermarket offers on holiday drinks

Gone are the days when stocking up on Xmas drinks meant a trip to France or laying down a cellar. The supermarkets have obligingly packaged up their wares into some great seasonal offers – order online and save your energy for dusting off the glassware…

Morrisons have a magnum of Menestrello Prosecco on offer for just £12. Whilst 150cl might be just a bit too much for a regular prosecco day, for Xmas lunch it might serve all the guests from the same bottle.

With just 15 sleeps to go til the big day, take the worry out of wine buying with Tesco’s mixed Entertaining Case for just £72 – with a selection of reds and whites, plus a bottle of fizz to take you through several courses and well into Boxing Day too.

Serving espresso martinis? Ocado have Smirnoff Espresso vodka on offer for a perky £13 – or martini purists might be interested in their Bombay Sapphire at the offer price of £18.

And if last year’s festivities saw a few glass breakages, Sainsbury’s have some fab champagne saucers for just £3 each…

Little Lovely Things: #NutmegSS15 Collection from Morrisons

One of our SM writers went to the Press Day for the SS15 Collection of the Nutmeg range from good ole Morrisons  yesterday – here is her report:

Despite the freezing temperatures and gloomy skies outside, within the event space (tucked just off Bond St) the Nutmeg collection of childrenswear looked as cheerful as the beachfront at Margate.

Grouped by moodboard and inspired by the likes of sugared almonds, lemonade and deck chairs, the range includes babywear, boys/girls and some teenage pieces, plus the intriguing £30 ‘capsule wardrobes’ for boys and girls.

Standout items included the Batman rash vest for little surfers and cute as pie floral playsuits and sundresses for fashion-forward young ladies.

And these delightful cornflower baby shoes definitely melted away the January Blues!

Thanks to all at 3 Monkeys PR, who did a great job.
